Who Are We & What Do We Do

Reardon Smith Nautical Trust

The object of the trust is the advancement of education of young persons up to the age of 25, resident in Wales and the County of Devon, in particular those resident in the City of Cardiff. 

Including, but so as not to limit the foregoing, by payment of grants, scholarships, exhibitions and bursaries to individuals to attend recognised or maritime courses relating to shipping, maritime law and commerce, navigation, sailing, oceanography and marine related environmental issues. In particular those which afford individual's first hand practical experience of being at sea, whether such courses be offered within any part of the United Kingdom or abroad.

What We've Done To Date

Reardon Smith Nautical Trust provide grants of no more than half of the qualifying vocation cost. We support individual applications, sail providers, schools, clubs and cadets for accredited training such as being a registered RYA teaching establishment.

 

Who We Consider

Reardon Smith Nautical Trust

The trustees of the Reardon Smith Nautical Trust operate to an annual budget which runs from 6th April to 5th April in each year. It makes financial awards out of the income generated from it's investment portfolio. The trustees will consider applications for the following categories of award:
 

  • Financial support for third party charities (or other non-profit making bodies) whose activities are consistent with the Charitable Objective (third party funding).
     
  • Financial support for individuals who are undertaking training or educational courses or who are undertaking academic activities (such as research) that are consistent with the Charitable Objective (individual education awards).
     
  • Financial support for individuals who are undertaking vocational (on the job) training that leads to qualifications that are consistent with the Charitable Objective (individual vocational awards).
